Types of Herpes: What Are The Different Varieties Of Herpes That You Ought
To Know?
There are various different types of herpes which I am going to mention in this article. In the first classification,
there are 3 types of herpes – neonatal HSV infection, genital herpes – HSV type 2 and cold sores – HSV type 1.
The curable types of herpes are occupational exposure related herpes; HIV related herpes and post transplant
related herpes. These are also the rare types of herpes. In this article I am going to discuss 2 types of herpes
namely – herpes Simplex type 2 or HSV 2 and HSV 1.
If you put these HSV 1 and HSV 2 under the microscope you will find that they both look identical
and share half their DNA. Both of these strands are endowed with the capacity to remain dormant and entrenched in
your nervous system throughout your life, while in other cases these strands may produce in infected people
symptoms which come and go. There are more similarities between these 2 types of herpes in the sense that they get
spread the same way, that is through genital contact and through direct contact orally.
At times the virus for these 2 types of herpes will
never ever produce visible symptoms of any kind. However there are differences as well. The main dissimilarity that
comes to my mind is the place in your body they prefer to settle in before establishing their dormancy. In usual
cases it is seen that HSV 1 is found to occur in the mouth region while its second counterpart prefers to be found
below the waist. However both will occur in the infected mucosal surfaces in the genital area and oral cavity.
You will find HSV 1 affecting the mouth cavity and the lips and the latency is established near the
ears in the trigeminal ganglion region. So the symptoms are found to recur in the region in the face. Some of the
results of herpes infection in the afflicted areas are fever blisters and cold sores. Sometimes it can spread to
other body parts. The chest is affected by the herpes gladitorium while the fingers are affected by herpetic
whitlow.
